Exploring advertising management, ad-blocker detection, and sustainable website monetization.
Running a WordPress website involves more than publishing articles and maintaining its design.
As a website grows, administrators may look for ways to generate revenue to cover hosting, domain registration, maintenance, content creation, and future improvements.
Display advertising is one way to monetize a website. However, managing advertisements effectively requires careful planning.
Too many ads can disrupt the reading experience, slow page loading, and discourage visitors from returning. At the same time, ad-blocking technology can affect how advertisements appear and how advertising revenue is generated.
As part of my ongoing WordPress plugin research, I started exploring tools that address different aspects of website advertising and monetization.
This article examines two plugins: ZDN Adblock Detector and Advanced Ads – Ad Manager & AdSense.
Although both relate to website advertising, they serve different purposes.
One focuses on detecting ad blockers, while the other provides tools to manage ads and their placement.

Advertising and Visitor Experience: Finding the Right Balance
Website monetization should not come at the expense of the audience.
Advertisements may support website operating costs, but excessive or intrusive ads can hurt usability.

- Whether advertisements interrupt the reading experience
- How ads behave on mobile devices
- The effect of advertising scripts on performance
- Whether advertisements are clearly identified
- Whether appropriate privacy and consent controls exist

A visitor-friendly approach may generate greater long-term value than maximizing the number of advertisements on each page.
Choosing Between the Two Plugins
Although both plugins relate to advertising, they address different needs.
Choose Advanced Ads when your main objective is to organize, display, and control website ads.
Consider ZDN Adblock Detector when the primary need is to identify ad-blocking behaviour and communicate with visitors about advertising support.
Both plugins are not necessarily required.

Nowyme Research Notes
For Nowyme, I would avoid forcing visitors to disable their ad blockers.
Instead, I would consider a polite and dismissible message explaining that advertising may help support the website.
I would also limit how frequently the message appears.
