I created this post to keep a research file for myself and to help others find useful WordPress plugins for custom fields and metaboxes. This article explains plugins that make it easy to add, manage, and customize extra fields and options in WordPress.

  1. CMB2 is a toolkit for developers to easily add custom fields, metaboxes, and forms to WordPress. With CMB2, you can manage extra data for posts, pages, users, comments, and even create custom options pages. It’s flexible and powerful, making it easier to customize WordPress for any project.

CMB2 is a complete rewrite of the original Custom Metaboxes and Fields plugin. To get started, check the example code included with the plugin and follow the basic usage instructions.

This plugin is ideal for developers who want more control over custom data and site customization.

  2. 2Secure Custom Fields By WordPress.org

Secure Custom Fields (SCF) makes it easy to add and manage custom fields in WordPress, turning your site into a flexible content management tool. You can quickly create fields for posts, pages, users, and more, and display them in your templates. SCF also lets you register new post types and taxonomies from its interface, giving you more control without extra plugins or code. The plugin is user-friendly and fits right into the WordPress design. Note: Installing SCF will disable similar plugins, such as Advanced Custom Fields, to prevent conflicts.

  3. 3Advanced Custom Fields (ACF®) By WP Engine

  4. 4 ACF: Better Search By Mateusz Gbiorczyk

This plugin improves the default WordPress search by letting it find content from selected Advanced Custom Fields. It works automatically—no extra code needed. The plugin makes search results more accurate, even allowing searches for exact phrases.

  5. This plugin lets you easily set custom, user-friendly permalinks for your site, like Custom Post Type > Taxonomy > Post, instead of the default WordPress structure. You can choose your own permalink pattern with just a few clicks, and it works automatically without any extra code.
