A Journey of Faith, Obedience, Provision, and Giving
There comes a point in our journey with God when faith must become more than something we say—we must live it.
Abraham experienced such a moment.
When God tested Abraham concerning Isaac in Genesis 22, Abraham was faced with an extraordinary decision: would he trust what he could see, or would he trust the God who had made the promise?
Abraham chose obedience.
And on that journey of faith came one of Scripture's most powerful declarations:
“The LORD will provide.”
This leads us to an important question:
Who is your provider?
When circumstances become difficult, do we truly depend upon God, or do we begin creating alternatives because we fear He will not provide?
Faith says, “God, I trust You.”
But genuine faith should eventually influence our actions. As James teaches, faith without works is dead. Trusting God therefore involves more than words—it involves faith in action.
The God Who Provides
God's provision does not always arrive in our preferred way or at our preferred time. Yet throughout Scripture, we repeatedly encounter people learning to trust Him.
There may even come a day when you look back over your life and recognize:
God was providing even when I could not see what He was doing.
That is why obedience matters.
Sometimes God asks us to do something that stretches our faith. We may not understand the assignment, the timing, or the outcome.
But it pays to obey God, regardless of the task.
Faithful service is never meaningless before Him.
From Receiving to Giving
Trusting God as our Provider should also change our understanding of possessions.
Psalm 24:1 reminds us:
“The earth is the LORD'S, and the fulness thereof…”
Ultimately, God owns everything.
Our money, possessions, abilities, opportunities—and even our time—are things entrusted to us.
Therefore, biblical giving is not simply about losing something. It is about stewardship.
Why Do We Give?
We give because God has first given to us.
We give as an expression of worship.
We give to support God's work.
We give to care for people in need.
We give because generosity reflects the heart of Christ.
Acts 20:35 reminds us of Jesus' teaching:
“It is more blessed to give than to receive.”
Giving, then, becomes more than an occasional action.
It becomes a way of life.
Giving Is More Than Money
When we hear the word giving, our thoughts often immediately turn toward finances. But we can give in many ways.
We can give our:
Time.
Resources.
Talents.
Service.
Compassion.
Encouragement.
Hospitality.
Offerings.
Scripture also discusses tithes, offerings, and vows in different contexts.
The deeper question becomes:
What has God placed in my hands, and how can I use it faithfully?
Giving as a Seed
A seed appears small when it leaves your hand.
But once planted, its potential extends beyond what you can see right away.
In the same way, an act of generosity may accomplish something far greater than we realize.
Your giving might feed someone.
Your time might encourage someone who feels forgotten.
Your service might strengthen a ministry.
Your generosity might help God's work reach someone you will never personally meet.
That is why giving should not simply be understood as a transaction.
Giving is an act of faith.
Faith in Action
And this brings us back to where we started.
A test of trust.
Do I trust God when He asks me to obey?
Do I trust Him when resources seem insufficient?
Do I trust Him enough to give?
Do I recognize Him as the true Owner of what I possess?
Do I believe He remains my Provider?
Faith is tested not only by what we believe when everything is plentiful, but also by how we respond when obedience requires something from us.
So:
Trust God.
Obey God.
Give faithfully.
Serve willingly.
Help the poor and needy.
Use what God has placed in your hands to advance His Kingdom.
And when you wonder whether there will be enough, remember Abraham's journey.
He climbed the mountain trusting God.
And there he discovered:
The Lord Will Provide.
Faith believes it.
Obedience demonstrates it.
Giving expresses it.
And a life of faithful stewardship lives it.
