Storyline Description
Moving forward with God requires more than refusing to return to the past. It requires learning to guard our eyes, ears, thoughts, time, and words. What we see may influence what we believe, what we hear may shape how we judge, and what we say may leave an impact that cannot easily be taken back.
Never Underestimate What God Can Do
Sometimes we look at our circumstances and decide too quickly that nothing can change.
But never underestimate what is possible when your hope remains in God.
A difficult season is not necessarily the end of your story.
A mistake does not have to become your identity.
A closed door does not mean that God has abandoned you.
So remind yourself:
Never lose hope in God.
Always keep your trust in God.
“Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.”
— Proverbs 3:5, KJV
I Am Moving Forward
There are moments when we need to look at yesterday, learn from it, and then decide:
I am not going back.
Not back to the habits God is helping me overcome.
Not back to destructive thinking.
Not back to hopelessness.
Not back to becoming controlled by people's opinions.
Instead:
Lord Jesus, You are my Savior.
Lord God, You are my Creator.
You have provided for me.
You have sustained me.
Lead me forward.
Moving forward does not mean forgetting everything behind you.
It means refusing to allow yesterday to control tomorrow.
Lord, Guide My Eyes
Not everything we see deserves our attention.
And what we see does not always tell us the complete story.
You might see someone poorly dressed and assume something about their life.
You might see someone's mistake and immediately define their entire character by it.
You might see someone's success without knowing the years of struggle behind it.
Sight gives us information—but not necessarily understanding.
So before judging what you see, pause.
There may be a story you do not know.
Lord, Guide What I Hear
The same principle applies to our ears.
Someone tells you something about another person.
Immediately you have a choice.
Will you accept it as fact?
Repeat it?
Judge the person?
Or stop and ask:
Do I actually know that this is true?
Gossip can travel faster than truth.
And once we accept someone's words without discernment, we can form opinions about people we have never taken the time to understand.
So pray:
Lord, give me wisdom concerning what I hear.
Be Careful What You Utter
Watch what comes out of your mouth.
Words can encourage someone.
Words can restore someone.
Words can teach.
Words can comfort.
But words can also embarrass, discourage, accuse, divide, and wound.
James gives a powerful warning about the tongue:
“Even so the tongue is a little member, and boasteth great things.”
— James 3:5, KJV
Once words have been spoken, an apology can bring healing—but it cannot always erase the memory of what was said.
That is why wisdom sometimes means pausing before speaking.
Ask yourself:
Is it true?
Is it necessary?
Am I speaking from love or anger?
Do I understand the whole situation?
Would I say these words if the person were standing in front of me?
Sometimes the wisest sentence is the one we decide not to say.
Don't Judge the Whole Story From One Chapter
What we see can tempt us to judge.
What we hear can tempt us to judge.
And what we say can spread that judgment to somebody else.
Jesus taught:
“Judge not, that ye be not judged.”
— Matthew 7:1, KJV
This doesn't mean ignoring right and wrong. It means approaching people with humility and remembering that we rarely know everything about another person's circumstances.
Before criticizing someone else's journey, remember:
You may only be seeing one chapter of their story.
Guard Your Time Too
“Lord, guide my time.”
Time is one of the things God gives us that we cannot recover once it has passed.
So consider:
Where is my time going?
What am I watching?
What am I listening to?
What am I repeatedly talking about?
What am I allowing to occupy my thoughts?
And most importantly:
Is the way I am living moving me toward the person God is calling me to become?
Knowledge, Wisdom, and Understanding
We need:
Knowledge to recognize truth.
Understanding to comprehend its meaning.
Wisdom to know how to apply it.
And we need God to guide all three.
So instead of immediately reacting to everything we see, hear, or experience:
Pause.
Pray.
Discern.
Then respond.
A Prayer for Discernment
Lord Jesus, You are my Saviour, my Creator, my Provider, and my Sustainer. Lead me forward and keep me from returning to the things You are calling me away from. Guide my eyes concerning what I see. Guard my ears concerning what I hear. Give me wisdom concerning what I believe. Guard my mouth concerning what I say. Teach me to use my time wisely and not to judge people without understanding their circumstances. Give me knowledge, wisdom, and understanding so that my words and actions may honour You. Amen.
A Daily Reminder
Guard your eyes.
Guard your ears.
Guard your thoughts.
Guard your time.
Guard your words.
Don't rush to judge.
Keep trusting God.
Keep moving forward.
Before you judge what you see, repeat what you hear, or speak what you think—pause and ask God for wisdom.
